McPherson Area Habitat For Humanity Family Selection 

McPherson Area Habitat for Humanity announces open periods for the application process each year. Applications packets are mailed to fulfill requests from families who attest to the following:

  • Applicant(s) must have lived or worked in McPherson County the previous 12 months.
  • Applicant(s) income must fall within current Area Median Income figures posted.
  • Applicant(s) must not own current residence or rental housing.
  • Applicant(s) must be willing to fulfill sweat equity requirements.
  • Applicant(s) must be citizens or permanent legal residents.

Applications are reviewed and vetted in a multi-step process by the Family Selection Committee and a family is selected to partner with McPherson Area Habitat for Humanity. Selection is based on policies and procedures from Habitat for Humanity International. The following three areas of criteria are considered.

Need for Housing:

  • Qualifying Income:  The total income of the applicant(s) and all individuals over the age of 18 who will live in the house is between 40% and 80% of the Area Median Income for McPherson County.
  • Structural condition of current housing is substandard as determined by report of applicant and home visit.
  • Living Conditions that include adequate space and stability of current housing are considered.

Ability to Pay:

  • All sources of Income from Applicant(s)
  • Calculated Debt-To-Income ratios
  • Type of Debt

Willingness to Partner:

  • Provide application information in timely manner
  • Declare willingness to fulfill sweat equity, down payment, and other requirements in Partnership Agreement.
  • Agree to expectation for timely mortgage payments.
